Welcome to the Housing Authority of the City of Summit

Please review the following information, and then stop by the office to obtain an application for family or senior housing. To be eligible for senior public housing, all family members must be 62 years of age or older.

Public housing applications require the following information:

• Current address and contact information for the applicant family
• Names, ages and social security numbers of all people who will reside in the unit
• A complete listing of gross family income from all sources
• A complete listing of all family assets and bank accounts
• For applicants to senior housing, out-of-pocket medical expenses
• For applicants with children under the age of 13, out-of-pocket day care expenses

All public housing authorities are required to maintain a waiting list. The waiting list is organized by preferences. Waiting list preferences for the Summit Housing Authority are as follows: Summit residents (families who live or work in Summit) receive a primary preference. For applicants to senior public housing only, resident preference is extended to parents of Summit residents. Secondary preference is given to working families, seniors (62 years of age or older) or families with disabled head-of-household.

The waiting list for Summit residents ranges from 1-2 years. For non-resident applicants, the waiting list is approximately 5-8 years. 

The Summit Housing Authority does not provide emergency shelter services.  Families in need of emergency shelter should contact their local social service agency.

Housing Applications are available at the Summit Housing Authority office located on the first floor of the City Hall building at 512 Springfield Avenue, Summit, NJ.  Interested parties who wish to receive an application in the mail must send a self-addressed, stamped envelope to:
